FAMILY SUPPORT NETWORK FOR CHILDREN WITH A TRAUMATIC
AMPUTATION OR CONGENITAL LIMB DIFFERENCE

In recent years there has been a growing trend for support groups to develop, as a natural response on the part of people with common concerns. Along these lines, CEHAP includes the Family Support Network, which is a service designed to provide one-on-one exchanges of information between parents of children with a traumatic amputation or birth anomaly resulting in a congenital limb deficiency.

Each year CEHAP organizes the Myoelectric Parent & Child Picnic, which draws children of all ages , who wear an electronic prosthesis, and their families from across the USA. The opportunity for parents, who have a child with a limb deficiency that has recently been fitted with an electronic hand or bionic arm, to talk to other families who have successfully dealt with the experience and resumed a normal life, has proven to be invaluable. Needless to say, we all tend to relate much better to those who can truly understand our situation.

The purpose of the Family Support Network is to provide the kind of support, hope and encouragement that one family can receive from another who has already been there.
